2021 publication cover

Inside the Gordie Center's 2021 fall publication, you will learn more about the work of the Gordie Center in 2021, and read profiles that illustrate why our work is so critical. We highlight:

  • Adam Oakes, the student who died in February 2021 after fraternity hazing at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), and our work to educate VCU students after his death.
  • Our partnership with the Antonio Tsialas Leadership Foundation to educate high school students about compassionate leadership to prevent hazing. Antonio died after being hazed at Cornell University in the fall of 2019.
  • Shelley Goldsmith, a University of Virginia student who died in 2013 after taking MDMA (ecstasy), and her mother's "safety first" harm-reduction advocacy after Shelley's death.

Be sure to read the letter from Leslie and Michael Lanahan, Gordie's mother and stepfather, and look for your name among the supporters listed in the final pages!
