Holly Deering is the associate director of the APPLE Training Institute and the University of Virginia's Gordie Center. Her primary role is overseeing the APPLE curriculum, conducting assessment, providing support for APPLE team action plan development and identifying best practices for substance misuse prevention in college athletics. Holly advises the University of Virginia Athletics' Student Athlete Mentor (SAM) program. She serves on the University of Virginia's Hazing Prevention Advisory Committee and on the advisory board of the national Step UP! bystander intervention program. Holly has worked at the APPLE Training Institute since 2011 serving as the coordinator and program manager prior to her current role. She previously worked in residence life at Southern Methodist University. Holly has a Bachelor's degree from James Madison University and her Master's degree from the University of Virginia. While pursuing her Master's degree, Holly was the graduate assistant in the Gordie Center/APPLE and her thesis was on national student-athlete mentor programs.
